This is the log of the last 5 months of our black labrador retriever, Sparky.  He was diagnosed with lymphoma on September 1, 2017 and died on January 26, 2018 at the age of 7.5 years.

It is written for other dog owners going through difficult times with their dogs having cancer, specifically lymphoma.

I wanted many times during the last 5 months of our dog's life to speak to other people in a similar  situation, to ask them questions about what we are going through, to look for any encouragement or just to feel that we are not alone.

So, you will find here our dog's story.

Everything about his good and bad days.
Details about the evolution of the sickness and the medication he was given.
Our struggle with his diet, diarrhea and stool issues.
Our emotional and mental status during his last few months.
Changes to our daily life habits.
How often we went to the vet and why.
What we tried with the hope that he will get some benefit.
His last day.

It has been a week since Sparky is no longer with us and we miss him dearly. There is no street in our neighbourhood that does not remind us of him. The house seems so empty without his energy and happiness everywhere.

Fridays are the worst. He died on Friday, January 26, 2018, at 2.53 pm.

Rest in peace, Sparky!

  1. I came across your lovely blog about your beautiful Sparky, as I was looking for information and help regarding lymphoma Cancer. My beautiful female/cross Labrador, Lilly has just recently been diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer. We are utterly devastated by this news. The fact is that she is only three years old too! I'm gutted! I'm in two worlds, the will to make her better and the other side to just let her go and not have to suffer. I feel guilty and at the same time positive, filled with hope that she will be a survivor. So many emotions flood through me. I'm so sad to hear about Sparky...and thankful that I'm.able to read about him.

  2. Thank you for writing about Sparky. Our pup, Leo (shy of 5 yrs old) was diagnosed with Lymphoma on January 27th 2019. Unfortunately, for us, it's very aggressive. He's at his last stage right now, we believe. Your experience resemble ours a bit and I can relate, with the day to day experience. The hope that maybe we can 'beat' this then this impending sense of his leaving us for good... Anyway. Just want to say I'm thankful that I can read about Sparky and he looked so much like our pup, Leo too. :)
